Solvents Fully Dissolving PGMA (Mw 40000–80000)
Fully soluble solvents: THF, 1,4-dioxane, acetone, MEK, cyclohexanone, MIBK, dichloromethane, chloroform, DMF, DMAc, ethyl acetate, butyl acetate, PMA.

All below solvents can form clear, transparent PGMA solutions at room temperature or gentle heating (≤60 °C):
1. Ketones (Most widely used in coatings)
Acetone
Methyl Ethyl Ketone (MEK / Butanone)
Cyclohexanone
Methyl Isobutyl Ketone (MIBK)
2. Cyclic Ethers (GPC standard solvent)
Tetrahydrofuran (THF)
1,4-Dioxane
3. Halogenated aliphatic solvents
Dichloromethane (Methylene chloride)
Chloroform
4. Polar amide aprotic solvents
N,N-Dimethylformamide (DMF)
N,N-Dimethylacetamide (DMAc)
5. Esters (Coating diluents)
Ethyl acetate
n-Butyl acetate
Isobutyl acetate
Propylene glycol methyl ether acetate (PMA)
Supplementary Notes
Dissolution speedEthers (THF, dioxane) > small molecular ketones (acetone, MEK) > esters. Esters dissolve slower, slight heating speeds up dissolution.
RestrictionDo not heat above 100 °C; high temperature triggers epoxy self-crosslinking and gel precipitation.
Mixed solvent schemeAcetone + butyl acetate is a common compound solvent system for coating production.
Contrast reminderToluene, xylene, isopropanol, DMSO only swell PGMA, cannot fully dissolve it into clear liquid. Water, ethanol, hexane are completely insoluble.
